Critical Well Services

Some wells require more than routine service execution. They require specialist planning, experienced judgment, and a high level of control because the operational risk is elevated, access is restricted, pressure behaviour is uncertain, or the consequences of failure are significant.

UniServe's Critical Well Services support operators during technically demanding well operations, including critical plug and abandonment preparation, critical P&A execution, blowout recovery, special well services, and unconventional intervention. We help operators prepare, execute, verify, and recover safely in situations where standard procedures may not be enough.

Critical P&A Preparatory Work

Critical plug and abandonment work begins long before field execution. UniServe supports operators with the technical planning, readiness review, barrier assessment, and risk evaluation required before critical P&A operations begin. Our preparatory work helps identify barrier uncertainties, access challenges, pressure-control risks, well integrity concerns, equipment requirements, and execution constraints before crews and assets are mobilized.

Key Support Areas

  • Well history and schematic review
  • Barrier status evaluation
  • Pressure and integrity data review
  • P&A method selection support
  • Access and intervention risk assessment
  • Equipment and personnel readiness planning
  • SIMOPS and HSE risk review
  • Contingency planning for abnormal conditions

Critical P&A Execution

UniServe supports the execution of critical plug and abandonment operations where pressure control, barrier verification, well access, or well integrity conditions require specialist oversight. Our execution support focuses on disciplined field delivery, safe barrier placement, intervention readiness, pressure monitoring, and confirmation that abandonment objectives are met according to the approved technical plan.

Key Support Areas

  • Field execution support
  • Barrier placement and verification oversight
  • Well control and pressure management support
  • Contingency execution support
  • Critical path activity monitoring
  • Equipment and service-provider coordination
  • Daily technical review and execution reporting
  • Post-operation close-out support

Blowout Recovery

After a blowout or serious well control event, the recovery phase must be handled carefully. UniServe supports operators with blowout recovery planning, wellsite stabilization, damage assessment, well integrity review, re-entry planning, and return-to-control operations. Our role is to help the operator transition from emergency response to safe recovery, asset preservation, and future risk reduction.

Key Support Areas

  • Post-blowout technical assessment
  • Wellsite stabilization support
  • Wellhead and equipment condition review
  • Re-entry and intervention planning
  • Pressure-control strategy review
  • Debris, access, and damage assessment
  • Recovery sequencing
  • Lessons-learned and prevention review

Special Services

UniServe provides special services for non-standard well conditions, unusual equipment configurations, restricted-access operations, and complex mechanical or pressure-control challenges that fall outside routine service categories. These services are tailored to the well, the operating environment, and the client's specific technical challenge.

Key Support Areas

  • Non-standard wellhead intervention
  • Custom mechanical solutions
  • Restricted-access well operations
  • Abnormal pressure-control support
  • Specialist tooling and procedure development
  • Emergency mechanical intervention
  • Field engineering support
  • Technical troubleshooting for complex wells

Unconventional Intervention

Unconventional wells can present unique intervention challenges because of well geometry, completion design, pressure behaviour, production profile, and access limitations. UniServe supports operators with specialist intervention planning and execution support for shale, tight reservoir, horizontal, and multi-stage completion environments.

Key Support Areas

  • Horizontal and unconventional well intervention planning
  • Pressure-control assessment
  • Well access and completion review
  • Intervention feasibility evaluation
  • Plug, obstruction, and access challenge support
  • High-rate production or flowback risk review
  • Surface equipment and wellhead readiness
  • Execution and contingency planning
