Steve Wehrenberg serves as a Board Advisor to UniServe Wells Management LLC, bringing more than 35 years of specialized experience in well control, snubbing, coiled tubing, HPHT operations, emergency blowout response, advanced well intervention, and downhole integrity solutions.
Steve currently serves as Senior Technical Advisor at 3rd Degree Specialty Tools, LLC, a company specializing in well control, wellhead intervention, and critical well operations. In this role, he provides senior-level technical oversight and field advisory support for complex intervention, well integrity, and pressure-control challenges across domestic and international operations.
He acts as a subject matter expert for high-risk and non-routine well conditions, including sustained casing pressure, well integrity failures, live-well intervention, pressure-control events, and emergency response readiness. His advisory work supports engineering strategy, execution planning, contingency development, and technical assurance for advanced intervention services such as pressure tapping, hot tapping, gate-valve drilling and milling, snubbing, and integrated well control solutions.
Steve began his career with Helmerich & Payne and later advanced through key technical and leadership roles at Halliburton, where he served as Snubbing Manager and instructor for well control, snubbing, and coiled tubing programs. He later served as Senior Well Control Specialist and Technical Advisor at Boots & Coots, Wild Well Control, and Great White Well Control, eventually rising to Vice President of Well Control Special Services and Snubbing.
Across his career, Steve has led global emergency response operations involving surface and subsurface blowouts, pressure-control events, well fires, ultra-deep HPHT interventions, horizontal wells, tight-gas wells, and complex well recovery operations. His technical experience includes hot tapping, gate-valve drilling, abrasive jet cutting, hydraulic snubbing, coiled tubing intervention, well control recovery, and advanced well integrity remediation.
Steve has also managed budgets, field operations, and multi-area technical teams across major U.S. basins, including the Mid-Continent, Rockies, Permian, and Eagle Ford. His combination of field execution, technical leadership, and in-house consulting experience has positioned him as a trusted advisor for some of the industry's most complex well control scenarios.
A recognized thought leader and innovator, Steve has published technical papers through the Society of Petroleum Engineers on HPHT snubbing, well control recovery using hydraulic snubbing, and pinpoint stimulation best practices. He is also a frequent speaker at AADE, API, SPE, and university events, where he contributes practical insight on well control, intervention, and advanced downhole technologies.
Steve is the inventor of U.S. Patent No. 10,787,880 B2 for sealing perforation tunnels with swelling elastomer material, the foundation of the patented rig-less SwellFrac® zonal isolation solution. In 2025, he secured two additional U.S. patents covering swelling elastomeric compounds and temporary closure of perforation tunnels to help mitigate frac-hits. His broader innovation portfolio includes co-patents in pinpoint stimulation and snubbing, as well as contributions to wellhead systems such as the EmergenC Clamp and Dual PC Pack-Off System.
As Founder and CEO of Energy I.P., LLC, Steve continued to advance the research, proprietary compounding, field trials, and commercialization of disruptive downhole technologies. His innovation background strengthens his ability to support UniServe's long-term technical direction, especially in specialized well intervention, well integrity, zonal isolation, and critical well planning.
Steve maintains key industry certifications, including IADC WellCap Well Control across surface and subsea disciplines, HAZWOPER, SafeGulf / SafeLand, BOSIET, and extensive additional safety training.
As part of the UniServe Advisory Board, Steve strengthens the company's technical depth in well control, snubbing, HPHT operations, sustained casing pressure, well integrity remediation, emergency response, and advanced intervention technologies. His combination of frontline emergency response experience, executive leadership, technical instruction, and patented innovation makes him a cornerstone technical advisor for UniServe's well control and critical well operations capability.
